Using the tools
RegexShelf is provided free of charge for general information and convenience. You may use the tools for personal and commercial work. You may not use the site in a way that breaks the law, disrupts the service, or tries to gain unauthorised access to it.
No warranty
The tools, the patterns and the explanations are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or accuracy. We test our tools and describe their limits, but mistakes can happen, and standards or third-party software change over time.
About regex results
RegexShelf runs patterns on three engines in your browser (your browser's own JavaScript engine, a WebAssembly build of PCRE2, and Go's regexp package compiled to WebAssembly). It does not run Python's, Java's or any other engine, and says so where it matters. The version of an engine in your own program may behave differently from the one used here. The patterns in the library are examples with known false positives and negatives that are listed on each page; they are not a substitute for validation designed for your application. In particular a pattern is not a security control, an address check does not prove an address exists, and a pattern that is fast here may be slow on other inputs or in other engines.
Check results before relying on them
Always verify important results (for example before deploying a pattern to production, using it to validate or filter data, or making a decision that has financial, legal or safety consequences) in the engine and version you will really use. The tools are not professional advice.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or its results. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
Third-party content, software and links
The site links to third-party websites, for example official documentation. It currently shows no advertising; if that changes, the Privacy Policy will say so first. We do not control and are not responsible for their content or practices. The PCRE2 and Go engines are third-party open-source software distributed under their own licences (see the About page). See the Privacy Policy.
Intellectual property
The site's text, design and code are owned by RegexShelf, an independent project operated from Indonesia unless stated otherwise. You own what you enter into the tools and the results they produce for you.
